The energy sector represented the largest single share of taxonomy-aligned capital deployment, led primarily by electricity providers.<\/p>\n

The EU sustainable finance framework aims to link economic expansion directly with decarbonisation goals by financing infrastructure and clean tech deployment. Channelling capital into domestic renewable energy, electrification and related clean technologies strengthens strategic autonomy and energy security across the EU while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

Surge in European Green Bond Issuance<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Commission figures also demonstrate mounting traction for European Green Bonds. Since the European Green Bond Standard began applying in December 2024, approximately 60 billion euros in bonds have been issued under the voluntary framework, which funds activities aligned with the EU Taxonomy.<\/p>\n

Issuance reached 21 billion euros in 2025 before rising to 39 billion euros between 1 January and 7 October 2026, almost doubling the volume recorded in the framework's initial year. To support further adoption, the Commission confirmed that work remains ongoing to simplify the overall sustainable finance framework and ease implementation for market participants.<\/p>\n
