Frequently asked questions
Who is subject to the ESPR destruction ban?
Large enterprises that sell apparel, clothing accessories, or footwear on the EU market are subject to the destruction ban from 19 July 2026. Medium-sized enterprises become subject from 19 July 2030. Micro and small enterprises are exempt from the ban but must still take reasonable steps to prevent destruction.
What is the ESPR disclosure obligation?
Article 24 of the ESPR requires large enterprises to publicly disclose information about unsold consumer products they discard. This includes the number and weight of products, reasons for discarding, waste treatment operations, and prevention measures. The standardised reporting format applies from approximately February 2027.
