The Board of Supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has elected Stavros Konstantas to its Management Board. Mr Konstantas serves as Director of Occupational and Private Insurance Supervision at the Bank of Greece.
Appointment Details and Mandate
Stavros Konstantas assumed his position on the Management Board on 13 August 2026 for a term of two and a half years. The term includes an option for extension for an additional period.
Mr Konstantas succeeds Ante Žigman, former President of the Board of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA). Mr Žigman stepped down following his appointment as Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB).
Governance Role of EIOPA Leadership Bodies
EIOPA's Management Board consists of the Chairperson and six representatives from national supervisory authorities. Meetings are also attended by a representative of the European Commission and EIOPA's Executive Director. The primary function of the Management Board is to ensure that EIOPA fulfils its assigned mission and tasks.
Policy decisions remain the mandate of the Board of Supervisors, which acts as EIOPA's main policy-making body. Each EU Member State delegates voting members to the Board of Supervisors, while non-voting representatives are delegated by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
