The Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities has published its Annual Work Programme for 2027, setting out primary focus areas to manage cross-sectoral risks and enhance supervisory coordination across the European Union's financial sector.
Key Focus Areas for EU Financial Supervision
The Joint Committee, which brings together the European Banking Authority, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority, and the European Securities and Markets Authority, will direct its joint work towards financial stability, consumer protection, and effective supervision.
For 2027, the key cross-sectoral priorities comprise digital operational resilience, technological innovation, sustainable finance, securitisation, and cross-sectoral risk monitoring.
Digital Resilience and Emerging Technologies
Pursuant to the Digital Operational Resilience Act, the supervisory authorities will maintain oversight activities regarding critical ICT third-party service providers, aiming to improve cyber threat preparedness across financial institutions.
The committee also plans to assess the broader supervisory impacts of technological developments, including artificial intelligence and additional digital tools.
Sustainable Finance, Consumer Protection, and Policy Alignment
Retail consumer protection remains a central initiative, with joint actions designed to help consumers make informed choices and bolster market trust. Within sustainable finance, the committee will continue supporting the uniform application of the European Union sustainability framework across sectors.
The 2027 priorities align with European Commission efforts to establish a Savings and Investment Union and advance regulatory simplification to lower unnecessary burdens while maintaining thorough supervision.
