The European Commission has appointed Paulina Dejmek Hack as Director-General of its Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, effective 1 October 2026.

The European Commission appointed Paulina Dejmek Hack as Director-General of the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA), with the appointment taking effect on 1 October 2026.

Department remit and policy objectives

DG FISMA is responsible for fostering a stable and resilient financial system intended to support economic growth across the European Union. The department's policies align with broad EU strategic priorities, including long-term competitiveness, security, and the digital and green transitions.

Career profile and institutional experience

Ms Dejmek Hack, a Swedish-Czech national, has worked for more than 25 years across financial services, economic policy, internal market regulation, and institutional leadership. Before taking up her position as Director-General, she served as Deputy Director-General within DG FISMA.

Her previous roles within the European Commission include Head of Cabinet to Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall, Director for General Affairs in DG FISMA, and Director in the Task Force for Relations with the United Kingdom. She also served as Director for Coordination and Administration and Financial Adviser to former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, having earlier been Deputy Head of Cabinet to Vice-President Michel Barnier. She worked as a lawyer before joining the European Commission in 2004.
