Consumer Footprint Calculator

The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation

About

This report presents the Consumer Footprint Calculator to assess the environmental impacts of the different lifestyles of EU citizens. It is based on the Consumption Footprint indicator, which follows a life cycle-based approach considering the entire supply-chain of products, and applies the Environmental Footprint method to estimate the potential environmental impacts, displaying the results in 16 impact categories and a single weighted score.

The Consumer Footprint Calculator allows citizens to calculate the environmental impact of their consumption on five areas of consumption: food, mobility, appliances, household goods, and housing. Users can explore their environmental impacts against the Planetary Boundaries, compare them with those of the average EU citizen, and understand the contribution of the different products to their overall environmental impact.

Main goal

The main goal of the Consumer Footprint Calculator is to provide detailed information on the environmental impact of consumption patterns to citizens as the basis to identify sustainable actions towards reducing their contribution to the environmental impact of the overall EU consumption.
The calculator can show the potential effect of changes in the consumption patterns and includes links
to sustainable actions, such as the EC climate action tips or the individual pledges of the European Climate Pact, and the UN “Anatomy of Action” project.
