Cecabank to Exit Euribor Panel as ESMA Confirms Benchmark Stability

Spanish institution Cecabank will leave the Euribor contributor panel on 30 September 2026, according to a statement from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). Acting as the supervisor of benchmark administrator European Money Market Institute (EMMI), the EU regulator confirmed that the exit poses no risk to the representativeness of the Euro unsecured money market benchmark.

Assessment of panel departure

EMMI announced that Cecabank will cease contributing input data to the Euribor benchmark determination after 30 September 2026.

ESMA and National Competent Authorities within the Euribor College of Supervisors conducted an evaluation of the departure. Their findings concluded that the bank's exit will not jeopardize the benchmark's representativeness across the Euro unsecured money market.

Panel evolution and participation

The departure follows a multi-year expansion of the Euribor panel. Four new panel banks have been added since 2022, with KBC Bank becoming a member in May 2026.

ESMA continues to invite active credit institutions within the Euro unsecured money market to apply for panel membership, aiming to maintain broad participation across the EU financial system.
