Bilateral Discussions on Financial Reporting Standards
On 24 September 2026, representatives of EFRAG and the Accounting Standards Board of Japan held meetings in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss corporate reporting developments.
During the visit, ASBJ Chair Yasunobu Kawanishi attended the EFRAG Financial Reporting Board physical meeting, presenting updates on the Japanese standard-setter's domestic and international work. In addition, delegation members held a private session to share viewpoints on International Accounting Standards Board IFRS accounting projects relevant to both jurisdictions.
Both organisations confirmed plans to maintain regular dialogue and exchange views on an ongoing basis.
Leadership Perspectives on Global Standards Cooperation
Wolf Klinz, Chair of the EFRAG Financial Reporting Board, welcomed the annual bilateral engagement, stating that both institutions share similar objectives regarding smoothly functioning capital markets. He noted that supporting the global implementation of corporate reporting standards helps maintain a level playing field for businesses while protecting investor and user interests.
Yasunobu Kawanishi expressed gratitude to EFRAG for hosting the discussions in Brussels, adding that the dialogue offered valuable insights into standard-setting issues and laying a foundation for future cooperation.
